Initial investigation suggests Robert J. Dancy, 35, of Worchester, New York, operating a 1997 Ford Explorer, was traveling southbound on Route 9G, and drove to the left of the center lane markings. Dancy then struck Emily R. Wootton, 20, of Milton, Vermont, who was driving northbound, operating a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, state police said.

Wootton was pronounced deceased on scene by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Dancy was transported with serious injuries to Westchester Medical Center.

This investigation remains ongoing, according to police.
